Lafayette Gun Club - Ranges

The Lafayette Gun Club has three outdoor firing ranges, two indoor firing ranges.

Outdoor Firing Ranges

50/100 Yards Firing Range

A completely covered concrete slab extending the 150 yard length of the common 50 and 100 yard firing lines with stable concrete shooting benches. Complete projectile, and rainwater containment. Portable target frames and fixed target carriers allow shooting at the 25, 50, and 100 yards. A qualified Range Officer must be on duty whenever firing occurs on all outdoor ranges. Shooting is available only during daylight hours.

Shotgun Range

Five-Stand

Up to five shooters take position in a set of plastic pipe shooting stands. Birds may be thrown from any of 8 traps. There are crossing birds, incoming birds, outbound birds, and a “teal” that flies a parabolic trajectory. The trapper may throw a predetermined menu of birds or the shooters may call out what they want thrown. The sequence is generally for each shooter in the squad in turn to fire a single, a report pair, and a true pair. (A true pair shot has two birds thrown simultaneously from two different traps.) After 5 thrown birds, shooters rotate to the right and repeat the sequence until 25 rounds have been fired. This is our most challenging game.

The 50 and 100 yards ranges feature a completely covered concrete slab shooting area running the full length of the two ranges with stable concrete shooting benches.

Indoor Firing Range

The 50 foot Indoor Firing Range has 10 firing positions, motor-driven target carriers, complete projectile and residue containment, variable lighting, radiant strip heating and state-of-the-art Detroit Armor backstop. Firing positions are separated by lane dividers at the firing line and sound absorbing materials are liberally used to minimize noise to the shooters, the clubhouse proper, and surrounding areas. This excellent facility is open for members' use 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
